The Mars Volta Streams New Album Octahedron on Myspace
By Morelli
The Mars Volta’s album Octahedron, due for release next week, is now available on Myspace (link) in its entirety for you to listen to. The bold offering emulates other bands that have streamed entire albums online like Wilco and Grizzly Bear.
It’s Volta’s fifth studio-recorded release, and the track Octopaxi reminds me a bit of the famous debut album De-Loused in the Comatorium. Check out the full track list below:
- Since We’ve Been Wrong
- Teflon
- Halo of Nembutals
- With Twilight as My Guide
- Cotopaxi
- Desperate Graves
- Copernicus
- Luciforms
I always enjoy their seemingly infinite improv-jams which, in fact, he says aren’t really improvised at all. Maybe some fans will be pleasantly surprised, like me, by the weird electronica used in Copernicus. Head on over to The Mars Volta’s Myspace and tell us which song is your favorite.
Many artists are adopting this method of distribution, and it’s definitely a step forward in the relationship fans have with their favorite bands. Personally, I think the most important thing is getting the album heard by as many people as possible. Thank you The Mars Volta!
How does Octahedron compare to their earlier releases?

It is great that The Mars Volta is streaming their newest release and that all their fans can hear it with the ease of the internet. I supose when you have money in the bank like this popular group there's not that everyday concern of makiing enough money just to keep a band together, a stuggle many lesser known bands have.
