Ex-Wilco Member Jay Bennett Died of Drug Overdose
By Mali
Some sad news. According to the coroners’s report, Wilco’s former guitarist, Jay Bennett, died of an accidental drug overdose.
The coroner declared that the 45-year-old multi-instrumentalist died from an overdose of fentanyl, a drug that is commonly prescribed to treat chronic pain after surgeries. The drugs is approximately 100 times more potent than morphine. All signs point to the death being an accident and not a suicide.
Bennett has recently sued his former band for $50,000, claiming that he was owed royalties for his work and was no receiving them. He had played with Wilco from 1994 to 2001, and let the band because of a fall-out with band leader Jeff Tweedy.
Bennett was declared dead after being found unresponsive at his Illinois home on May 24.
So far none of his old band members have commented on the recent news of the cause of his death.
