New Third Eye Blind Single up on iTunes

By

Yes, you read that right. Third Eye Blind, the San Francisco-born band that rose to popularity in the late 1990s with massive hits such as “Semi-Charmed Life”, “Jumper” and “How’s It Going to Be” is back. Their last full-length record, 2003′s Out of the Vein, was solid, but the band received little mainstream attention for the album. They didn’t let that stop them, as they took the ensuing five years to create some new tunes. They released a digital-only EP, Red Star, and are gearing up to release a new full-length album entitled Ursa Major, set to be released on August 18.

Well, the first single from Ursa Major was just released today on iTunes. It’s called “Don’t Believe a Word”, and while it is a bit experimental for the band, it manages to retain 3EB’s classic sound throughout. Stephan Jenkins’ raspy voice accentuates the Who-like power chords that give the song a robust yet familiar sound. I think it’s a solid first single, and I’m personally looking forward to Ursa Major when it drops.

I have a huge soft spot for 1990s music and the bands from that era, so I have been a 3EB fan ever since heard “Semi-Charmed Life” all over the place in the summer of 1997.

You can purchase “Don’t Believe a Word” on iTunes here.

If you’d rather listen to it first and then buy it, you can do so on Rhapsody here.

What do you think of the new single?

I'm a big fan of their older albums but I don't really like the new single. Hopefully the rest of the new album is better.
