A legend has died; Michael Jackson.

After a long run in the world of stardom and fame, Jackson was pronounced dead today in Los Angeles. He was only 50 years old. The troubled, reclusive star was rushed to UCLA Medical Center by paramedics responding to a call from his home at about 12:30 p.m. Jackson had been scheduled next month to begin the first of 50 sold-out shows at London’s O2 Arena, a testament to his long-lasting popularity with fans everywhere.

Years before all of the tabloid exposés, bizarre behavior, health issues and child abuse sex-scandals stained his image, Jackson celebrated the many triumphs during his rise to superstardom in the 1980s.

Since he first arrived on the scene in 1969, Jackson flourished to the foreground of pop culture. Jackson is the King of Pop because he transformed pop music and had become the first African-American singer to gain worldwide success.
