The Pixies are in the market for a Hollywood director to work with. Someone get Tarantino on line one. Perhaps David Lynch. Thinking about the creative match-ups is an intriguing parlor game, which is why it’s so interesting to hear Black Francis (aka Frank Black) tell NME.com that for the Pixies first album since 1991’s Tromp Le Monde (yes, it’s been that long) he’s thinking about recording with a Hollywood film director.

Francis said he’d be interested in working on a film with a music tie-in project, but did not rule out recording a traditional new album – no movie.

“The band needs to work with a film director,” he told NME.COM. “Quentin Tarantino or someone like that. It’d be like, ‘Make some music for our film, you guys [Pixies] be the sound of the film’. Spread the word about the idea ‘cos I think it’s gonna work.”

According to Francis, if the band continues playing live shows there is a better chance the group would record ‘more conventional album.’

“We’d have to finally get sick of playing the old repertoire and go, ‘Alright, fuck it. Let’s play new songs in our set’,” he explained. “But the only way we’d really want to do it is if it was really great.

“There’s a fear that if we try to commit something to tape then even if it doesn’t come out stellar, somehow those recordings will get leaked. The band is beloved by its audience, so we don’t want to fuck it up.”

Pixies will soon release a new, super-mega box set known as Minotaur. The deluxe-edition offers everything on 24K gold-plated CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays, while the limited edition of 3,000 (all signed by the band) is expanded to include 180-gram virgin vinyl and other design upgrades. They retail for $175 and $495, respectively.

The DVDs and Blu-ray discs include all of the band’s videos and its 1991 performance at London’s Brixton Academy.

Oh, and Minotaur weighs 25-pounds!

Is there a film director that fits well with The Pixies?
