Reports are coming in that police in Los Angeles are preparing to question one of Michael Jackson’s doctors. There have been claims that, only minutes before Jackson died, the pop star was given an injection of a painkiller which can cause cardiac arrest.

The doctor, named as cardiologist Conrad Robert Murray, was said to have tried to revive Jackson, then disappeared for several hours. Sources have said that Jackson had been using a drug called Demerol as he prepared for his upcoming series of 50 concerts in London. The heart specialist had been living at his rented house.

Police have noted that the doctor was not a criminal suspect.

The Los Angeles County Coroner said Friday afternoon that an autopsy had been completed, but that a cause of Jackson’s death would not be confirmed before additional tests that would take four to six weeks.

It is being reported that Michael Jackson most likely suffered a heart attack.

According to a report in the Guardian, Craig Harvey, operations chief of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, said the result of the post-mortem examination had been deferred as more tests were needed. These were expected to take four to six weeks, he said.

He added there was no evidence of foul play or trauma on the superstar’s body. Mr Harvey said he could not comment on any specific drugs which Jackson may have been prescribed, but added: “We know he was taking some prescription medications.”

He added that Jackson’s body was now available to be released to his family.

“The coroner has concluded the autopsy for Mr Michael Jackson,” he said. “The cause of death has been deferred, which means that the medical examiner has ordered additional testing, such as toxicology and other studies.

“Those tests we anticipate will take approximately four to six additional weeks to complete. At that time, once those test results have been completed, we anticipate being able to close the case and issue a final cause of death.”

Harvey said there was no indication of any external trauma or any indication of foul play on the body of Mr Jackson.

The 911 call has also been released by fire official, which helps piece together the what happened before paramedics arrived Thursday afternoon.

In the recording, an unidentified caller pleads with authorities to send help. He later tells a 911 dispatcher that Jackson’s doctor is performing CPR.

“He’s pumping his chest,” the caller says, “but he’s not responding to anything.”
