Earlier today, Michael Jackson’s will was filed in court and the contents are no surprise.  Jackson left his estate to his mother Katherine Jackson, who is the beneficiary of the Michael Jackson Family Trust. The will also names Katherine as guardian of Jackson’s three children. The will was dated July 7, 2002 and estimated the iconic legends worth to be around $500 million at that time. That amount consisted almost entirely of “non-cash, non-liquid assets, including primarily an interest in a catalogue of music royalty rights which is currently being administered by Sony ATV, and the interests of various entities.”

Something that came as a surprise, was who Jackson named as the successor trustee in case something was to happen to his mother:  Diana Ross. Debbie Rowe, the mother to his children, was not mentioned in the will. Jackson’s lawyer John Branca and John McClain, a music executive had this to say about the seven-year-old document:

“The most important element of Michael’s will is his unwavering desire that his mother, Katherine, become the legal guardian for his three children. As we work to carry out Michael’s instructions to safeguard both the future of his children as well as the remarkable legacy he left us as an artist we ask that all matters involving his estate be handled with the dignity and the respect that Michael and his family deserve.”
