Must be all about the supergroup these days. Word is that Dave Grohl is now recording with Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme and, oh yes, Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones.

Antiquiet.com first had word of the rock trio currently inhabiting a Los Angeles recording studio, working on a full-length album.  According to the website, Grohl had the idea for the project way back in ’05, as evidenced by what he said in an interview with Mojo magazine:

“The next project that I’m trying to initiate involves me on drums, Josh Homme on guitar, and John Paul Jones playing bass. That’s the next album. That wouldn’t suck.”

That would definitely not suck. With the rumors of a Led Zeppelin reunion tour most likely never going to happen and QOTSA taking a break, what better time for Grohl to round up his rock buddies and finally make this thing happen.

Hard facts are still sketchy, but Homme’s wife, Spinnerette’s Brody Dalle, did say on record she had heard some of the trio’s efforts.

“I’m not at liberty to talk about it… but I think [the project] is pretty fucking amazing,” she declared. “Just beats and sounds like you’ve never heard before.”

I am actually very excited about this.

The news of the power trio hitting the studio comes on the heels of Jones discussing music plans earlier this year with a French newspaper:

“I’m working on some other music, which is more rock based, with a couple of other people. We hope to be everywhere this summer.  It’s a secret, actually. I shouldn’t have even said that, you know? There are some exciting projects coming up, let’s put it that way.”

Now it all makes sense. But the cat is outta the bag, and we’re ready to hear some tunes! We’ll keep ya posted.

What do you think about this new supergroup? Could be pretty awesome.
