Cage The Elephant- BS- July 3

While the July 4th weekend is big for hot dogs, pool parties, parades, men on stilts an dAmerican flag cakes, it is not a big weekend for concerts. Since most tickets go on sale on Saturday morning, Ticketmaster/ Live Nation probably assumes everyone will be too busy waving flags at parades to spend money on service fees in front of there computer. Also, since most of the big summer tours have already been announced we are in the on-sale lull between Summer andFall tours.

Expect some bigger announcements in a few weeks, but for now here are a few choice nuggets that are on sale this weekend….

Oh yeah, and have a fun weekend.

  • You’ve gotta hand it to whoever Rehage Entertainment Productions is because when they put together a lineup for the annual Voodoo Music Festival they put up a big middle finger to being pigeonholed. While Coachella is known for breaking indie-rock bands and Boonaroois known for more of a jam-band type of feel, the Voodoo Musical Festival offers something for everyone (good or bad) from typical festival fare like The Silversun Pickups, The Flaming Lips, and Gogol Bordello to indie hip hop such as The Cool Kids and Q-Tip. Then there are a whole bunch of WTF’s like Kiss (really?) and tween sensations All Time Low mixed with Ween, Mutemath, Widespread Panic and… Eminem? That’s a catch, I can’t remember the last time Eninemplayed a full outside of Detroit. The festival is Halloween weekend in New Orleans and you can find the whole Jazz-infused lineup here. Tickets are on sale now.
  • If there was a concert award given out to the hippest package of the year then the just announced Silversun Pickups/ Manchester Orchestra/ Cage The Elephant tour may just may be the concert equivalent of Slumdog Millionaire. The North American tour begins August 3rd in Baltimore, MD and hits cities in the Northeast, throughout Canada , and the Northwest before finally ending with dates at the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco and the Street Scene Festival in San Diego on August 28th and 29th. You can find all dates in maroon and white here.
  • Punk/metal/ Spongebob Squarepants soundtrack gods Motorhead has announced a month long US (and Eastern Canadian) tour  beginning August 28th in Minneapolis and concluding October 10th in Las Vegas. The Reverend Horton Heat and Nashville Pussy will open. Quick: someone get film a Lemme/ Reverend road documentary, that would just be gold. Find your dates here.
  • Reunited punkers Face To Face have announced a very brief East Coast tour beginning September 17th in New York and hitting medium sized rooms in Boston, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh before ending, because circles are cool, back in New York on September 22nd. Pegboy and  Polar Bear Club open all five dates. Tickets go on sale this weekend and you can find the dates here.
