HumanLab. Never heard of them? I myself hadn’t heard of them until about two weeks ago whilst among the tomatoes at a local street fair-slash-farmers market. Much to my surprise I found myself thinking: “This is what music discovery is all about.” Lo and behold, there they were. Falling into an alarmingly good band when least expected has to be one of the more satisfying sensations the world can offer.

The five-piece Huntington Beach, California-based band is amped on love in all its phases – whether bleeding from a broken heart, or tapping into it as a renewable resource – in a way that is neither suffocating nor invasive. Their sound is the equivalent of whatever the hell Cupid’s got on the tip of his arrow, almost intoxicating with oft-expressions of the most basic however complex human desires. What makes them stand out is that – while their sound in itself has been done before (haven’t they all?) – there is an honesty and obvious origin of talent on a homegrown foundation, serving as a clear distinction from most expendable flavors of the week. It also helps that their overall upbuilding message of love and hope is set to a range of tone, from a “summer of love” sentiment to very much classic rock undertones, to folksy, soulful, yet always rock & roll.

While slim in pickings today in the realm of photos (a few) and videos (none), we consider HumanLab to quite possibly be the coolest band you haven’t heard of yet. Something tells me that audio is all you’ll need. Check out them in our BeatCrave Fav series below, and if you feel the love as much as we do, be sure to vote for them in Friday’s poll!
