Ryan Gosling To Release Debut Album In October
By Jeffrey Hyatt
Seriously, did you know actor Ryan Gosling was in a band?
When he’s not starring in flicks like The Notebook (sigh), Half Nelson and Lars and the Real Girl, apparently hunky Ryan Gosling likes to get his rock n’ roll on. Okay, maybe not rock n’ roll, more like “gothic/gospel/showtunes,” which is how the music is described on the MySpace page for Dead Man’s Bones – the name of the duo featuring Gosling and his buddy Zach Shield.
The duo lists their influences as “disney haunted mansion, doo wop and 60s girl groups.” Nice.
Check their MySpace page to hear “In the Room Where You Sleep” and “Name in Stone.”
So it definitely sounds a tad kooky, but Anti- thinks it’s cool because the label is releasing the band’s self-titled debut album on Oct. 6. According to Paste, Dead Man’s Bones will feature the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir.
I’ll say right now that the eclectic tunes are not that bad. You might think, ‘The guy from Fracture? No way!” But give it a chance. Not too bad for the clearly multi-talented Canadian.
Gosling plays piano and guitar on the new record.
Ryan has previously told Pitchfork of the project:
“You know when you’re a kid and you get crayons and papers and just draw whatever you want and it’s just a bunch of messy lines, but to you it makes sense, and then they put it on the fridge?
“From that point on, you’re always trying to get back on the fridge, you start drawing things that look like something, like, the more it looks like a horse, the more chance you have of getting it on the fridge. We wanted to get back to that place before we were trying to make the fridge. We wanted to work with people who hadn’t been affected in that way yet.”
As a child Gosling starred with Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake on The Mickey Mouse Club. But you knew that already.
Okay Ryan Gosling fans. What do you think of his musical talent?

What's with the screen stars in bands? I love it! It's like the olden days, where you were a triple threat, actor, singer and dancer. Not too shabby.
