Concert Tickets with Nine Inch Nails, The Get Up Kids, Placebo and more
By Brian Spiegel
Reports are out that the Michael Jackson publicity event funeral cost the cash strapped city of Los Angeles somewhere between $1.4-$4 Million dollars. Good thing because I needed to hear from Al Sharpton that Michael Jackson was the most important person ever in the history of black civil rights (apparently Jackie Robinson and MLK ran a close second). Since no riots broke out and we got to hear a cringe worthy version of “We Are The World” I would say it was a rousing success. Mission accomplished.
Anyway, just think of all of the awesome concert tickets the city of Los Angeles could have bought with that $1.4 million dollars. That’s like 280,000 Fugazi concert tickets or 7 No Doubt orchestra seats. Or they could have chosen something from this list of concert on sales from this week. Check these out…
- Trent Reznor just can’t quit you. After announcing at the recent Bonnaroo Festival that this performance was his last North American concert ever under the Nine Inch Nails moniker, Reznor has changed his mind and announced a short US club tour which Reznor again promises will be the Nail’s last. This time he seems serious. Honest injin. Reznor claims that this new round of US tour dates came about because his recent tour dates with Janes Addiction felt rushed ( his sets began before the sun has set) and that this tour will feature “longer set-lists, possible special guests, cool openers, and other surprises.” Hopefully that means a live version of the the NIN- Sheryl Crow collab “Pussygrinder” (check out this for more information on that). Anyway, no dates have been announced yet, but the late August- Early September tour plans to play small to medium sized clubs in New York (Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall and Terminal 5), Chicago (Aragon Ballroom), Los Angeles (The Wiltern, The Henry Fonda Theater, The Palladium and The Echoplex) and Toronto (they will play the Virgin Fest, which is big, not small). Offical dates should be announced soon so check back next week.
- The reunited Get Up Kids have announced more dates for an upcoming North American tour which is due to start September 11th in Kansas City, MO and now extends all the way until November 18th in Austin, TX. This now includes dates on the East Coast and the Southern states and tickets go on sale beginning this weekend. You can find all dates here. Youth Group and Pretty & Nice open all dates. Don’t… miss… these… shows…
- Androgynous British rock band Placebo (whose new single ”For What It’s Worth” is habit forming) has announced a North American tour (including Mexico) which begins September 12th in Portland, OR. The tour hits major markets (and Murray, UT) throughout the continent before ending October 12th in NYC. Find tour dates (and deluxe box sets) here.
- In what is shaping up to be the equivalent of the “Monsters of Rock” tour for Scottish Emo Bands, raw Scottish rockers Frightened Rabbits have teamed up with fellow Scot’s The Twilight Sad and (the awesome) We Were Promised Jet Packs for a quick US tour beginning September 14th in Salt Lake City and making a giant L towards Orlando, FL on September 29th. Tickets for the ‘Sad Rabbits With Jetpacks Tour” (just my suggestion) go on sale this week and you can find all dates here.
- Punk stalwarts The Dillinger Four has announced a brief West Coast tour beginning September 18th in Seattle and ending September 25th in Tempe, Az. America’s best live band, The Riverboat Gamblerswill open along with The Arrivals. You can find all dates here.

I am so excited the The Get Up Kids are doing this tour. I missed them at bamboozle and the show they did at the troubador. I've waited forever to hear Matt Pryor's voice live.
