Just because Kim Deal’s band, the Pixies, have a new, mega box-set out called Minotaur and are set for a European tour this fall doesn’t mean she’s planning to chill out this summer.  Nope, Deal is grabbing sister Kelly (along with Jose Medeles, Mando Lopez and Cheryl Lindsey) so they can take The Breeders on a summer tour of 15 shows.

The group released the 4-song EP Fate to Fatal in April. The tour gets underway August 5 in Newport, KY and includes two nights at New York’s Bowery Ballroom and closes in Columbus, OH on August 23.

A full tour schedule is below.

Fate To Fatal was released as both a digital download via iTunes and a limited-edition 12-inch vinyl EP. During the August tour expect to hear songs from Fate to Fatal, plus numerous, old-school Breeders tunes. “Cannonball,” of course.

This past May The Breeders performed and curated the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in the UK, which included bands like Bon Iver, Gang of Four, the Foals, X, J-Zone and Heartless Bastards, among others. The band returns in December to be part of the 10 Years of All Tomorrow’s Parties concert.

About the Fate to Fatal EP, Kim Deal says,

“We started with a song called ‘Fate to Fatal.’ The Breeders were on tour all of last year, so we booked time at a place called the Fortress in London, England, and worked with a guy named Gareth Parton. At the beginning, Gareth and I were really snitty towards each other, which can turn out bad or good. And it turned out really good.

The second song, ‘The Last Time,’ I wrote, but I recorded it in my basement – we have a guest vocalist on it, Mark Lanegan [Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age, The Gutter Twins]. The third song is a cover of a Bob Marley and the Wailers song, ‘Chances Are.’ Kelley and I recorded it live in Chicago at Steve Albini’s. And the last song, ‘Pinnacle Hollow,’ I did in my basement on a four-track – tape hiss and all.”
