Music customization definitely has a place in the music ‘biz. Give the consumer the tools to have it their way, as it were. A new, remixable iPhone app from digital content agency Moderati is hoping to push customizable music technology forward, all the while providing a nice boost for the record labels – in this case Universal Music Group, looking to benefit from a new technology.

The new, $5 Romplr application allows you to remix three songs by the artist Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em. Basically, you pick one of Soulja Boy’s tracks then use the controls to tweak the bass, drums, vocals and other sonic elements for a remixed version.

You can check out the Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em Romplr app in the App Store here.

Right now, you can only edit three tracks: “Crank That,” “Hey You There” and “Turn My Swag On.”

After you’ve gone to work on the Soulja Boy tunes you are able to record and share the mixes through Facebook Connect, email or on Romplr.com (video demo).

“IGA remains committed to creating and supporting new and compelling ways for fans and artists to connect,” stated Ted Mico, IGA’s Executive VP of Digital. “The Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em Romplr application allows us to create a unique experience for the fans and the hip-hop community, and we look forward to working with Moderati to expand this program even further in the coming months.”

Romplr is the first in a series of Romplr branded music applications to be produced by Moderati. Also launching today is Romplr Dance, which contains three original dance tracks that can be remixed by fans. Romplr will also be extended to other mobile platforms such Blackberry, Android, Java and Ovi.

“Over the past eight years we’ve enabled the music industry to deliver over 100 million entertainment experiences to consumers,” said Jon Vlassopulos, CEO of Moderati.

“Romplr will become the next great platform for the music industry to reach a new consumer base that wants to not only listen to music, but also wants to interact with it, personalize it and share it with their friends. We look forward to working with many more artists, as we bring the Romplr experience to fans worldwide.”

Moderati has a deal with Interscope Records to distribute additional artist Romplr apps in the future.

Even if I’m not a huge fan of Soulja Boy, I am firmly behind the access to edit technology; an opportunity to drop some creativity into the music listening experience.

Is Romplr’s new App something you might try?
