Lately when you see the name Coldplay in a headline you might think someone is accusing the band again for helping themselves to a melody or two. But no, today’s news is something altogether more positive and rather momentous – in a digital music sense.

Coldplay have become the first artists to sell more than one million full digital albums in the US, according to Nielsen SoundScan data. This number adds to the band’s already big total of more than two million complete albums sold worldwide.

Coldplay are currently touring North America – tour dates below.

Already a digital juggernaut, the band’s most recent album, Viva La Vida, is the top-selling digital album in SoundScan history. The two million figure regarding complete digital albums includes the download sales of four of the band’s studio albums, a live disc and an EP.

The band’s new video for the single “Strawberry Swing” debuts Monday (July 20) via Babelgum.com.

Say what you will of Coldplay – and Lord knows the band elicits every type of opinion possible – but they know how to move product.
