042209 green day Green Day to Perform at MTV Video Music Awards

I haven’t seriously watched the MTV Video Music Awards since high school, so I’m surprised that their latest performance announcement interests me. According to NME, punk rockers Green Day will hit the stage at the 2009 VMA’s on September 13. They’ll be joining other performers who include Pink, Taylor Swift, and Muse. The show will once again be hosted by British comedian Russell Brand, even though I heard he sucked last year.

I’m not surprised that Green Day will attend and perform at the VMA’s considering they have a new album about to drop in a few months. It’s called publicity folks. Muse will perform their new single ‘Uprising,’ while Swift will sing her song, “You Belong With Me.” They haven’t announced what Green Day will perform so I guess you’ll just have to wait and see. The annual awards ceremony will make its return to New York City at the Radio City Music Hall. It’s previously been held in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and even Miami.

I can honestly say the last time I remember enjoying the show it took place in NYC. What does that tell ya? More performer announcements will be made in the following weeks as we near the show date. I’m not personally jumping for joy, but what do you guys think?

What do you think about Green Day hitting the VMA stage this year? Do you even watch the VMA’s anymore?
