F Yeah Fest Initial Lineup, Name Change, and Charity Goals

The ultimate D.I.Y. music festival in LA, F Yeah Fest, is back this September 5th and the line-up looks pretty rad. They’ve got everyone from the Black Lips to Glass Candy to Avi Buffalo. However, a few things have changed for the annual event.

For instance, if you already went to the F Yeah link within the first sentence, you’ll notice that it’s no longer the F Yeah Fest, but now the FYF Fest (which is silly because it translates to Fuck Yeah Fest Festival…). If you plan on going, you should be aware of the three changes below. Of course, we also have the line up for you after the jump!

First off, we’ll have to back it up and go back to the reason why the name has been changed. According to LA Weekly, the name of the festival has changed mainly because of the location. Usually the F Yeah Fest is held in The Echo and The Echoplex and the creators, Sean Carlson, Keith Morris and Phil Hoelting, have always been helped by Spaceland productions. However, this year they wanted to take it into their own hands and move it to a location where there is a wider open space.

This led to the booking of L.A. Historic State Park which will be amazing for the event, but it wasn’t that easy to keep. Because of  state and city budgets, the park was on the list for parks tentatively closing down. However, Carlson, Morris, and Hoelting have managed to sweet talk their way into having the festival go on no matter what the fate of the park may be.

Secondly, after they talked to the officials, the regulators were a bit weary of the blatant festival name. So in order to have the festival go on, they agreed to change the name from F Yeah Fest to the FYF Fest. (Does anyone else find this silly?)

Thirdly, the FYF Fest has a charitable mission. This year, encouraged donations are going towards the California State Park Foundation. The event will suggest that attendees who give twenty-hours of time to one of the participating organizations will receive two tickets to the festival and an “exclusive care package.” (An American Apparel gym bag? Hey, it’s useful.)

Tickets are only $20 for this incredible line-up. Even hipster fans of Pitchfork Music Festival will be jealous. Check the initial lineup out below!

Los Angeles State Historic Park is a state (not city) park, and it not slated for closure.

[...] After their first song, the band let us know that they too, got, one of the million FYF flyers out there. In a monotone voice, they announced “FYF Fest. September 5th. Save our state parks.” This was followed by a confused expression as if they had no idea what the hell FYF Fest was. (Perhaps it’s because they added that unecessary letter to the name!) [...]
