Lollapalooza: The Virgins

New York City’s The Virgins are no strangers to festivals. Having played All Points West back in 2008 along with the SXSW festival in the same year, they seemed to feel right at home at Lollapalooza. Playing on the Citi stage lead signer Donald Cumming was the most lively making full use of the stage while dancing around the stage in his bare feet.

With funky (dare I say it) Michael Jackson-esque bass lines seemingly engulfed the crowd spreading a general notion; dancing. Hundreds of kids cooler than you (hipsters) were shaking their groove thang as soon as the first measures of “Teen Lovers” came rushing out from the speakers.
That widespread feeling of ‘Body Movin’ was a tribute to the cancelled Beastie Boys without The Virgins even knowing they were doing it. That same feeling is the exact reason why The Virgins take the cake for most exciting show of the day. Those New Yorkers definitely know how to party and when I brushed into Cumming and guitarist Nick Zarin-Ackerman, they were on a search for some Jameson, “none of that Southern Comfort bullshit.” Case and point.
