Lollapalooza: Atmosphere Review and Set List
By Andy Keil
The rain and clouds from Friday gave way to heat and humidity as Saturday of Lollapalooza rolled around with a day full of new artists. Thanks to the nice weather, crowd sizes seemed to grow substantially adding precious minutes to the walk between stages. The grounds crew deserves a big shout-out for taking care on 95% of the mud left over from Friday’s rain showers; the shoes of countless hipsters have been saved, no doubt.
Saturday started off for us with Atmosphere at 2:45pm at the Chicago 2016 stage. Check out the review and setlist below…
Slug and Ant of Atmosphere got the crowd hyped mid-afternoon as the heat index started pushing 100 degrees. Ant kicked out his lackadaisical bass-heavy beats while Slug flexed his lyrical prowess with astute rhymes. The setlist weighed heavily with cuts from the classic God Loves Ugly including: “GodLovesUgly”, “One of a Kind”, “Blamegame”, “Saves The Day”, “Modern Man’s Hustle”, and “Shrapnel”.
The highlight of the set came with “Trying to Find a Balance” towards the end of the set where Slug starts with the line “Atmosphere finally made a good record; yeah right, that shit almost sounds convincing” before Ant kicks in a beat that pairs nicely with Slug’s stage swagger. On a side note, I wonder if Ant is sponsored by big tobacco as he powered down what seemed like a pack of cigarettes while spinning. Maybe that’s why he always has a lollipop at indoor venues?
