The Decemberists Busted For Busking1 The Decemberists Busted For Busking

Before The Decemberists performed at The Royal Oak Theater in Royal Oak, Michigan yesterday, they got into a little trouble with the law.

Unable to wait for the performance, the band decided they’d give the people in Royal Oak downtown a little extra love and perhaps see how much they could actually make as they busk.

The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy was the first to tweet about their little event after 1:00:

@colinmeloy Busking, 4th and Main, Royal Oak. $2 made so far. http://yfrog.com/5dfflj

You can see them happily playing out their adventure in this picture. Fans soon found out and people walking by began to notice that the people on the street weren’t just regular people:

@triblive twittered:  BREAKING: Free Decemberists show in Royal Oak, Mich. — AT THIS VERY MOMENT! http://img193.yfrog.com/i/ffl.jpg/

@emistijl retweeted and shared: Hey Detroit – Decemberists love you! RT: @colinmeloy Busking, 4th and Main, Royal Oak. $2 made so far. http://yfrog.com/5dfflj

However shortly after, Meloy also posted this picture of bassist, Nate Query, and a Royal Oaks officer along with the tweet: “Busted busking!” It looks like the band is getting a ticket but a representative from the band’s record label said they got a mere warning instead of a ticket.

That’s pretty spontaneous. Busking is always interesting and when it’s The Decemberists doing it, it gets a little more intriguing!

That's Nate Query (the bassist) that's with the cop. Not Colin.
