Lit Drummer, Allen Shellenberger, Passes at 39
By Andy Keil
Just yesterday, the rock world mourned the passing of Les Paul, one of rock n’ roll’s greatest innovators who passed at the age of 94. Today, we got the unfortunate news that Allen Shellenberger, the drummer for the 90′s rock band Lit, lost his fight with brain cancer.
More on Shellenberger’s unexpected death after the jump…
Back in May 2008, Shellenberger was diagnosed with a malignant tumor and surprisingly, he was able to play with the band up into the fall when he had to slow down due to treatment.
In a statement from the remaining band members, Kevin Baldes, Jeremy Popoff, and A.Jay Popoff, had this to say of their longtime friend:
“To know Al was to know laughter. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. Words cannot begin to express how much he will be missed. This was our brother and not a day will go by that we won’t think about him. Right now we’re trying to find the balance of mourning his loss and celebrating his life. Allen has experienced more in his 39 years than most people dream of in ten lifetimes. This is a tremendous loss for us, our fans, and also for Allen’s family who took such good care of him during his battle with cancer.”
Funeral services will be private and for family members only. It will be followed by a public memorial ceremony which is currently pending.
What a horrible loss for the music industry and his friends and family. Allen was an awesome drummer, and always gave 100 percent when he performed. Shellenberger was only 39 years old.
Were you a fan of Lit? What will you miss the most about their music?

I have known the guys in Lit for over 18yrs now – to know Allen was to love him. His smile could brighten up the worst mood. He is missed dearly by all and he will forever be a hero to those whom he touched. Forever in our hearts he will live on…
