radiohead1 New Radiohead Song Is Leaked Online

Big news in Radiohead land today about the song “These Are My Twisted Words,” which someway, somehow mysteriously leaked onto the web Wednesday.

Did Radiohead leak it themselves? Maybe. They do have an upcoming EP — Wall of Ice. Maybe their drumming up some buzz by way of a leak.

There remains discussion across the ‘Net about whether if it’s even a Radiohead song. It certainly sounds like frontman Thom Yorke’s vocals to me. And it has that perfectly weird, strange and troubling sound courtesy of guitarists Jonny Greenwood and Ed O’Brien, drummer Phil Selway, and bassist Colin Greenwood.

I’m sold.

Fansite Atease was first to discover the song.

The mysterious song comes on the heels of Yorke declaring, in an interview with The Believer, that the band has no plans to record another full-length album, preferring instead to focus on singles.

As Yorke relates:

None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off. I mean, it’s just become a real drag. It worked with “In Rainbows” because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we’ve all said that we can’t possibly dive into that again. It’ll kill us.

“In Rainbows” worked on two or three different levels. The first level is just sort of getting a point across that we wanted to get across about music being valuable. It also worked as a way of using the Internet to promote your record, without having to use iTunes or Google or whatever…and it also worked financially.

Via Consequence of Sound, we find that a “nfo” file accompanies the mp3 on P2P sites and features a Yorke-style poem with it:

i just wanted to reassure readers
that following representations
seeking confirmation
that before your very eyes
behind the wall of ice
that the box is not under threat
however they are set to remove
other boxes
in fact i have the list in front of me
i went to a briefing on their plans
and challenged them to tell me
exactly what the cost would be

they spoke in broad terms

It’s like a great mystery, unraveling one Blog post at at time. They keep it interesting. If nothing else Radiohead keeps things interesting.

As far as I’m concerned Radiohead can just keep on releasing their songs on the ‘Net (for free). Twelve MP3s later and it’s a new album!

Do you think Radiohead purposely leaked their own song online?
