Rockstar To Release Beaterator Featuring Timbaland Beats

Rockstar Games has announced that they will be releasing a new video game titled Beaterator where players can make their own beats. Sound familiar?

What used to be a mere flash application on Rockstar’s website in 2005 is now a full-fledged, marketable game four years later. Set for release on September 29th in the US and October 2nd in Europe, Beaterator will be available to play on Playstation Portable and Playstation Network. The release dates make perfect sense, since the PSPgo is supposedly slated for availability on October 1st.

However, what Beaterator has over DJ Hero are two important factors that went into the production process.

First off, the new game has the same development team as the Grand Theft Auto Franchise, Rockstar Leeds. This development team is particularly responsible for PSP’s GTA: Liberty City Stories and GTA: Chinatown Wars. If that’s any indication of credibility, then we’re not sure what else is.

Secondly, the game will feature beats and loops especially made by the team but also R&B/Hip-hop producer, Timabland. He has made thousands of audio samples and loops especially for the game. Not only is this a good way for the famous producer to branch out even more business-wise, but it really is something he’s very proud of. According to GameSpy, Timbaland says:

“I’ve worked closely with Rockstar Games to make something completely unique [...] Beaterator is like taking my music studio and turning it into a suite of tools anyone can use. We can’t wait to hear the beats people make and share with the world.”

Rockstar has even made a “teaser” trailer for the game. Timbaland narrates and we assume the person deejaying is supposed to be him. Check it out below!

Is it better than DJ Hero and will you be purchasing Beaterator come September?

Sounds fantastic! I may have to check into this. I think kids need more games like this that encourages creativity.
