This is not the first time Elizabeth and the Catapult has graced the pages of BeatCrave. Ever since we featured them in our Know Your NYC Bands series, we just couldn’t get enough of the trio. We even inducted them in to our BeatCrave Fav series!

So when BeatCrave kindly got invited to their last show on their 5-week tour, we were more than happy to accept!

The show was hosted by Rolling Stone Magazine and took place on the rooftop of the Andaz Hotel in West Hollywood. Before E and the C went on, the room already had a pleasant atmosphere with an open bar, free meals (spaghetti, sushi, ceviche, and more), and a lovely view of the city. There honestly wasn’t a better way to unwind after work on a Thursday night.

Although sitting poolside on a covered cabana bed was lovely, the night really didn’t take off until Elizabeth and the Catapult took the stage. Although the DJ had played cool tunes by artists we love such as Ladyhawke, Little Boots, Passion Pit, MGMT and more earlier, the audience was gathering around for their real treat of the night.

Not only was it an honor to see Elizabeth and the crew put on a fantastic show, but it was flattering to know they would play for such an intimate audience to cap off their tour.

Like a child lured with candy, we all headed toward the stage as soon as we could hear E and the C open up with the playful “Race You.” As people took their spots near the stage, everyone realized that the trio had help from two more members to help flesh out the touring band. The trumpet was a nice touch to their inviting sound.

Their set went from witty “Momma’s Boy” to melancholic “Rainiest Day of Summer” to the circus-like energized “Perfectly Perfect.” Elizabeth, who was running between two sets of keys, tilted her head this way and that way while her powerful voice belted out the melodies that proved she was adorable, talented, strong and that she also had a serious bite.

It was hard not to take notice of the stage area while we all became intoxicated with E and the C’s sound. Although it wasn’t the largest space for a concert, when the lights beamed down on all five band members and a hint of glitter reflected off of their eyes – thanks to the Rolling Stone sign – we couldn’t help but notice how their sound was grander than the room. Although their down-to-earth stage presence told us they would also be perfectly comfortable with playing a show in a dingy bar, everything seemed as it should be.

With a Tom Waits cover slipped in, Elizabeth and the Catapult performed a hearty set and successfully embraced the audience with crisp vocals, charming keyboard and guitar riffs, simmering drums, and seductive bass lines that night.
