Paper Tongues: BeatCrave Fav
By Winnie Jaing
If the Beastie Boys collaborated with Eminem and asked MUTEMATH to back them up, they would get Paper Tongues. Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, Paper Tongues fuses hip-hop with rock and roll while mixing in tinges of soul. The seven-member septet, formed two years ago when lead singer Aswan North, founded the “Inprov Music Experience,” a weekly event where musicians played for the homeless in their city.
Now, with their freshman album, Trinity, slated for release next week on August 25, 2009, the band has much to look forward to. With producers Brian West (Nelly Furtado), Mark Endert (Maroon 5, Madonna), John Fields (Jimmy Eat World), Billy Hume (Ying Yang Twins, David Banner), and Nicolas Balachandran, the album is sure to find itself in good hands. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, catch them with Wolfmother, Tool, Linkin Park, past BeatCrave Favs After Midnight Project, and Alice in Chains at KROQ’s Epicenter 2009 (formally known as KROQ’s Inland Invasion).
Check out Paper Tongues below in our BeatCrave Fav series, and if you like their sound as much as we do, vote for them in Friday’s poll!
