The Cranberries Get Back Together For US Tour
Aug 25, 2009 - By Jeffrey Hyatt
On hiatus and out of the spotlight for almost seven years, The Cranberries have announced that they will reform to embark on a US tour later this year.
“I’ve decided to reunite with my former band members in The Cranberries and we will be writing new songs and performing tracks off my new album as well as our greatest hits during the shows,” said singer Dolores O’Riordan.
The tour will feature the band’s original lineup of O’Riordan, Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan and Fergal Lawler. The Cranberries will hit the road in November for a tour of North America and then play dates in Europe in early 2010.
“Over the last few years, each member of the band has had time to work on different projects and learn so much from their experience,” guitarist and co-songwriter Hogan said in a statement. “Now the time is right for The Cranberries to bring all of this together and move forward.”
The band said that they will perform old classics as well as material from O’Riordan’s new solo album, No Baggage, which was released today (August 25).
A fan’s plea: please play “Zombie.”
Even though The Cranberries have been on the sidelines these seven years, it’s not difficult to recall when the Irish foursome shot to fame in 1993 with their pop-ballad “Linger,” a song that has most likely delighted and enraged music fans over the years as it quickly cemented itself as a radio staple.
Nevertheless, the group released a trio of really good albums the last decade, so it’s nice to see a return to some of the better music from the ’90s, which, yes, does include “Linger.”
Tour dates are expected shortly.
Are you happy to see the return of The Cranberries?
