The Who’s Pete Townshend Writing New Musical, Floss
By Seraphina L.
Talk about your generation. For a person who’s one written the lyrics, “I hope I die before I get old,” Pete Townshend has had some 180′s happen during his life.
The famous guitarist of The Who is now talking about writing his third musical, and guess what it’s about? It’s about getting old! Well, I guess he’s older at 64 years and he hasn’t died. So, why NOT another musical?
Townshend has written musicals before. With his knowledge and experience in literature, he has combined his music abilities to come alive on stage with shows, Tommy and Quadrophenia. His new musical will be titled Floss and according to Reuters, he will be using “the powerfully angry context of rock’n'roll” to tell the story of aging and eventually dying. The Associated Press is saying that the musical is in the works for a debut in 2011 and most likely, somewhere in New York .
The rock-opera will focus on a couple having marital problem while the male character also battles with his music career after getting one of his songs in an advertisement.
Townshend explains: “Floss is an ambitious new project for me, in the style of Tommy and Quadrophenia. In this case the songs are interspersed with surround-sound ‘soundscapes’ featuring complex sound-effects and musical montages.”
Like songs of Tommy and Quadrophenia, work from Floss will also be featured on The Who’s upcoming album which is slated for next year.
Hey New Yorkers, will you be attending Floss?
