You knew it would happen sooner or later. The reviews for the new installment of the Guitar Hero series are pouring in. Guitar Hero 5 features some of the most iconic musicians to ever touch the instrument, and it’s time to find out what we can expect from the fifth round of the rhythmic game. Let’s check out the good, the bad, and the ugly takes on this musical phenomenon.

On the new features:

Guitar Hero 5 builds on the solid foundations set by previous versions of the game such as Guitar Hero III Legends of Rock and Guitar Hero On Tour 4, however has also added a few new features and options to enhance your experience, these new features include ‘Party Play’, ‘Momentum’ and Perfectionist. [ProductReviews]

“Party Play mode instantly reinvigorates the social fun of music games… It is the new standard for social rocking. This is musical fun done right… This is the Guitar Hero to own.” [XBOXMagazine]

On the console exclusives:

Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of this game are similar, so similar that they are identical. However, the 360 does have one exclusive stand out feature, avatar integration. The ability to place your avatar on stage is cool and adds a personal touch to the game, after all, the avatars are modeled after the player. From the instruments to the clothing of your avatar, everything can be bought and unlocked within the game or purchased on the Avatar Marketplace. [Justpushstart]

Features exclusive to the Wii™ version of Guitar Hero 5 deliver a unique and unforgettable gameplay experience with unprecedented integration, where up to two Nintendo DS™ players engage in an intense competition with two Wii guitarists in the new Roadie Battle mode. Mii™ Freestyle returns for a unique gameplay experience that allows Wii players to jam along to different genres, including Rock, Metal and Blues. The new Mii Freestyle Stage Manager allows Nintendo DS players to call the shots with control of on-stage lightshows, camera angles and pyrotechnics. [TeamXbox]

The overall good:

Guitar Hero brings again the very best of rock gaming with Guitar Hero 5. This time to spice things up, guitar hero provides the opportunity for players to make their bands the way they want it. Play with a guitar and two drum kits or two guitars and one mic. For the first time ever, customize your bands the way you want it. This is what we call rock and roll. [Tech.Spreadit.org]

With the inclusion of new game modes, additional multiplayer support, advanced graphics including new playable characters, and an on-disc assortment of 85 tracks from over 83 unique artists, Guitar Hero 5 is certainly looking to advance one of the most respected rhythmic games to a whole new level. [Examiner]

The overall bad:

Guitar Hero 5 is similar to the past Guitar Hero games in which it’s essentially the same game but with new songs and minor graphical enhancements. The use of party mode is fun but you will feel repetitiveness as you keep on playing them and I easily got bored with it. [Justpushstart]

So, if your an avid player of this game, it looks like they’ve spiced up the fifth installment with some oldies, but goodies. Guitar Hero 5 hits stores today (September 1st), so pick up a copy and form your own opinion.

What do you think about Guitar Hero 5? Is it worth all the hype?

You should probably remove any mention of or quotes from that JustPushStart review. Seeing as how the guy didn't even play the game.
