Did Whitney Houston’s Good Morning America Performance Suck?
By Krystal Clark
I’ve noticed a huge surge in reviews regarding the performance of returning R&B legend Whitney Houston. The songstress just released her sixth full length album entitled, I Look to You followed by a performance on ABC’s Good Morning America. From what I hear her appearance didn’t go off without a hitch.
After Houston’s self imposed semi-retirement, die hard fans have been eager to hear the singer nicknamed “The Voice” return to her former glory. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case when she sung in front of 4,000 people on Good Morning America. According to Rolling Stone, “the six-time Grammy winner apologized to the crowd for her voice and explained that she had recorded her forthcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey yesterday.”
During the performance of several new songs including the Alicia Keys co-written single “Million Dollar Bill,” her voice began to crack and she sounded out of breath halfway through the track. To make matters worse, several fans came forward and confirmed that her return was lackluster.
“I expected (the performance) to be longer. She couldn’t sing. She was really damaged,” said Joao Andrade, 28, of North Bergen, N.J. “I’m a little disappointed. I think she was brave to come out with no voice.”
It’s been seven years since the award winner has hit the stage, and promoted a new album. Perhaps she needs to warm up a bit to get back into the groove. I really do want Whitney to step her game up and show these so called “singers” out now how it’s really done. I fear that the era of strong vocalists has come and gone. We need some type of legitimate talent to carry us on into the future.

Do you think Houston has what it takes to make a successful comeback?

I was there this afternoon to watch Whitney perform. She did not suck at all. Rather, she was extremely high energy, dancing around on stage, smiling at, waving to and pleasing her fans like almost no other performer could do. While her voice was hoarse, it was solid and soulful. She choked up as she acknowledging her mother's support and began "I Look To You."
And although Whitney explicitly acknowledged to the audience that she was having vocal issues, she didn't let those issues stop her from performing. She kept going, kept belting and kept dancing.
On top of the raw talent and vulnerability she displayed, she also happened to look absolutely fantastic. Her outfit, hair and overall style were impeccable. She was classy and grateful to her fans and family.
Once again, Whitney did not suck today. She has a long road ahead of her and will not be flawless in her journey. But she's still more talented than virtually every other popular female vocalist and her new album is a pleasure to play. Welcome back, Ms. Houston.

I think Whitney did her best, don't forget this is her first appearance, she was just as scared as her fans were, that she'll make a come back.
Let's give her a chance.

I just saw the televised concert of Whitney in Good Morning America. I should say she gave her best in terms of bringing out her energy but I was a bit disappointed with her voice which sounded tired and hoarse. I do hope her next live performances to promote her newest album would be much better. She deserves to be back. She is absolutely one of the greatest artists the world has known.

Instead of a come back, Whitney should have stayed back! Her previously recorded performance on GMA was terrible. Remember, we saw the edited version. She barely sang at all, talk about " I Look To You"-she looked to the audience to do a lot of the singing since her beautiful God given gift is gone, blown away by years of drug abuse and hard living. I think bringing out her daughter was a ploy to make us think that she is a caring person. I also think the foaming at the mouth fans who were featured were plants in the audience. I never saw anyone who was blessed with so many gifts just throw all of them away! Once a fan-now I just watch in disgust

It's her first time live in a long time. Not only is she worried about her voice, but about what people will think. I think it will take time, as Natalie Cole was in the same situation and she got her voice back. She is living her life in front of everyone and still brave enough to try again. Give her a chance because at her worst she's better than some of these singers who have never had a problem.

I watched the show on GMA and it was awful. My heart went out to Whitney because the gift that she once had, is no longer there. It does not matter if she hasn't peformed in years or a decade a true singer always performs. So no more excuses for her voice, the abuse that she did to her body is heard in her voice. You can't save everybody and try to make there careers come back, it's not fair to the other great singers out there who could have used the songs that Whitney butchered.

We all want to see an underdog win… we all want to see heroes make good, and stars resurge. This wasn't it. Maybe people could feel the nergy in person, but on camera, she was struggling, had little breath control, stumbled over lyrics, and spoke opr shouted much of what she couldn't sing.
Maybe there is a big comeback for Whitney. Maybe she's gor a future. But this wasn't it.
Love her to death for the effort, but gotta be honest. She wasn't ready, plain and simple. And this is the second time she "wasn't ready" when a TV appearance was supposed to restart her career. Hope she gets it together.

She is teorically free from drugs since 2007, but her performances in 2007, right after halting the adiction, seemed to be much better than what she has been doing lately. I don’t know, but it seems like she is getting worse and worse, instead getting better. I really don’t understand that. Is it a result of what we could call as a “delayed side-effect”. That’s so weird! I feel so sorry for her! Terrible, just terrible! I still hoe she get it together, though!

People, People.
Whitney has been "done" for a while. Let's face it. It's over. Why don't we Christian's follow new emerging artists? I have found one beautiful female artist named Sharon MaRee. Look her up on itunes, and compare the vocals!!! Just a thought! I love R&B and Contemporary Christian Music. It's close to the same!!
Try It!

Plain and simple Whitney stunk! What a waste of a beautiful voice, all cracked out and blown to smithereens. Cheap plpy letting the audience sing and bring out her daughter. Newsflash Whitney , we still noticed you can no longer sing. She did look very nice, although I wish her stylist would purchase a more modern up-to-date wig for her to wear in the future.

Sorry folks I meant to type cheap "ploy" in letting the audience sing. All hail Whitney ………the new "Queen of Schlock!!!!!!!!

Whitney's biggest problem is she can not sustain a note so her sings sounds breathy and clipped. She still sings better than 99% of us but her resurgence is only the result of having strong family ties in the music industry. Way too much echo to try and cover these shortcomings on "Dancing with the Stars" last night although she is still looks the hot diva. Continue singing for the enjoyment, but don't expect to squeeze the public on big ticket prices.

i must admit that, for me, the star is gone
