What Does Paul McCartney Think of The Beatles: Rock Band?

There is a lot of hype regarding the impending release of The Beatles: Rock Band. It seems like it should be a pretty entertaining game. The curious question is what does Paul McCartney think of it? Well, I’m sure he’ll let you know once he actually plays the game. That’s right. He hasn’t played it yet.
In a recent interview with the Guardian, McCartney stated:
“I haven’t, actually. I’m kind of, you know, looking forward to playing it. My excuse is, I play guitar. I was on the real record. So the idea of pushing buttons and things in time is kind of slightly intriguing for me,”
He also talked about the possible reactions that the late John Lennon and George Harrison might have towards Rock Band.
“I think they would have been amused,” McCartney says. “I think they would have seen the point of it. For us, let’s remember that the central thing is our music is getting played. That’s the bottom line. I’m sure John and George would have thought, ‘Hey, what a clever idea.’”
This sounds like a bit of a lame excuse, however it isn’t terribly surprising. It would have been better if he blamed it on the fact that he is completely out of touch with technology. There are many people who play real instruments and still play the video game versions. They’re completely different experiences and comparing the two things is like apples and oranges. I am willing to bet that George would have been down with the project, in part because it was his son Dhani who instigated the concept when he ran into the head of MTV while on vacation.
What do you think?
