The Beatles Return to the Top of the Charts
By Krystal Clark
What year is this? It feels like we’re having a bit of deja vu. The Beatles are behind several of the top selling albums for the week that ended on September 13 with the reissue of their earlier albums. According to Yahoo, Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band, The Beatles, Rubber Soul, and Revolver, were all among the 10 biggest albums in the United States, that sold a total of 626 thousand copies.
Here is the breakdown of the numbers:
- Abbey Road – 89,000 copies
- Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band – 67, 000 copies
- The Beatles – 60,000 copies
- Rubber Soul – 58,000 copies
- Revolver – 46,000 copies
- Yellow Submarine – 14,000 copies
On Billboard’s Top Catalog Album Chart, The Beatles claimed 15 of the top 18 places with their 13 studio albums . Even though thier recent chart success is immense, they won’t be considered as benchmark numbers because they’re catalog albums. That honor only goes to music that’s been released in the last 18 months.
As you can see after forty years in the music game The Beatles are still relevant among fans. They’ve crossed over to several younger generations and it shows in these recent Billboard numbers. Even though Abbey Road is an amazing album, I’m surprised it sold so much over Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band. I wonder what that’s all about?
What do you think about The Beatles dominating last week’s Billboard chart? Did you pick up a copy of one of their albums?
