Concert Picks: And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, Plastiscines, Mason Jennings…
By Lindsey Darden
The weekend is almost here! Must be nice, what with 52 like-holidays a year. Get your celebration started with some choice entertainment value – namely, our picks for the days to come:
- …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead | Friday, September 18 | 6:00 pm | 18+ | $20 | Webster Hall, New York, NY – Map | The elaborate art rock elements of the Austin, Texas-based band – as showcased on their sixth studio release, entitled The Century of Self – will be extra-charged up for your live-listening pleasure in the venue’s grand ballroom. Click here for tickets.
- Plastiscines | Friday, September 18 | 8:30 pm | 21+ | $8 | Spaceland, Los Angeles, CA – Map | What is it about an all-girl band that piques our interest? It’s not what you think. We’re all familiar with the story of recently-introduced models that have been unleashed as the next best thing when they are anything but? Well, the Plastiscines are the complete opposite of that. The super adorable, super talented guitar-wielders will share the stage with Funeral Party, Layton, and Seven Saturdays. Click here for tickets.
- The Cave Singers | Saturday, September 19 | 8:00 pm | 18+ | $13-$15 | The Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY – Map | The Seattle, Wash.,-based very folk music-y band – apparently with no prior intentions to be so folk music-y – will likely showcase songs from their most recent release, entitled Welcome Joy. Lightning Dust and Motel Motel are also set to take the stage this evening. Click here for tickets.
- Mason Jennings | Saturday, September 19 | 8:00 pm | $20 | El Rey Theater, Los Angeles, CA – Map | Jennings is motivated by the right stuff when it comes to writing and singing his music: that being a need, and namely, a need to be free. The tracks on Jennings’ newest release, entitled Blood of Man, seems to be much-inspired by family, and by coping with the things more easily dealt with instead of changing – you know. All the write stuff. The Crash Kings are set to play as well; click here for tickets.
- The Gaslight Anthem | Sunday, September 20 | 8:00 pm | $20 | The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA – Map | Mellow punk with just enough energy to keep ‘em dancing in their seats – that’s New Jersey-based band The Gaslight Anthem. Their sophomore album, The ’59 Sound, tells their story well, but no doubt we gather their live performance do so just as well, if not better. Click here for tickets.
Who have you got tickets for this weekend?
