Nelly Furtado’s Spanish Language Album

Pop singer Nelly Furtado made multiplatinum waves in the music industry with her 2006 album, Loose. She teamed up with super producer Timbaland to create such number one hits as “Promiscuous” and “Say it Right.” According to the Associated Press, Furtado plans on making a dramatic creative and lingual shift for her latest album, by performing all of the tracks in Spanish.

Furtado’s latest album is entitled, Mi Plan and is considered a complete turn around from her previous work. With Loose, she recorded all the songs at night, which worked well for the overall club feel on the album. Mi Plan was recorded during the day, and reflects her life as a newly married woman, who has a 5 year old daughter at home.

According to the singer,

“I would literally wake up in the morning, drive my daughter to school and drive right to the studio and work all day. That’s why it has a fresh, light, pure energy.”

This will be the artist’s first album in Spanish, and she is up for the challenge. Furtado is familiar with the Latin culture, being the child Portuguese immigrants. She feels that singing in the Spanish language adds something new to her vocals.

“I’m singing with a strength but I’m also conveying a vulnerability and I think that it’s something that I’m only capable of doing if I sing in a Latin language, that very succinct emotion. So really I use this album as a tool, I use it as a tool to further explore my emotions and my songwriting.

The over the top success of Loose may be a heavy load to carry, but she sounds like she’s up to the challenge. I’ve heard her do a couple of duets with other singers in Spanish and she sounded pretty good. Can’t wait to hear the first single.
