This is it. The barrage of posthumous Michael Jackson song releases has begun.

The first Michael Jackson track since his death is set to be unveiled on Oct. 12 – a brand new single entitled “This Is It.”

Following the release of the single, Sony Music will release the two-disc album This Is It on October 27th, which features the music that inspired Sony Pictures’ film Michael Jackson’s This Is It, due for a worldwide release in theaters on Oct. 28th.

The song is featured in the film’s closing credits and includes background vocals by Jackson’s brothers.

“This song only defines, once again, what the world already knows – that Michael is one of God’s greatest gifts,” comments John McClain, co-producer of the album.

Disc one will feature the original album masters of some of Jackson’s biggest hits arranged in the same sequence as they appear in the film. Disc two offers previously unreleased versions of some of Jackson’s classic tracks. This disc also features a spoken word poem from the King of Pop entitled “Planet Earth” that has never been heard before.

This is It also includes a 36-page, commemorative booklet featuring exclusive photos of Michael from his last rehearsal.

Michael Jackson’s This Is It tour documentary is expected to run in theaters for a two-week engagement, which features footage of Jackson rehearsing for a series of comeback concerts that were to have taken place in London.

Jackson died at 50 shortly before his “This Is It” residency at the O2 arena was to have begun.

The tour documentary will have simultaneous premieres in more than 15 cities globally. Cities hosting the premieres on October 27 and 28 include Los Angeles, London, New York, Berlin, Seoul and Rio de Janeiro, Sony Pictures said.

So move over Tupac, Elvis and all you other famous musicians who have long since passed but still seem to release a new record each year – the King of Pop is about to take the concept of ‘unreleased,’ ‘rare’ and ‘never before heard’ music to a whole new level.

This is it alright. The beginning.
