Lily Allen Had Illegal Mixtapes on Her Website
By Kara
It seems like Lily Allen is always complaining about something, and her most recent tirade is about illegal downloading and copyright infringement. This would be a plausible argument if it wasn’t for the fact that she’s a total hypocrite. According to TorrentFreak, Lily had two free mix tapes on her website that were not authorized by the artists; she never got permission to use the songs, let alone give them away for free.
The second case of hypocrisy involved her pasting an article to her blog without permission or attribution to the website the article was from. Double oops. Honestly, she really doesn’t have a clue when it comes to copyright infringement. Yes, pirating music does hurt a lot of artists, but it also helps a lot of newbies get their music heard. The piracy problem the music industry faces is certainly a daunting and complicated issue.
If Allen is going to take a stand against piracy go for it, however she better make sure that she’s not doing it. Otherwise, she’ll become fodder for an attack, and her argument just isn’t credible. Better practice what you preach, Lily. With this recent revelation and her announcement that she will not be recording another album, it would be interesting to know what people think of her. How will this affect her record sales, concert sales, and public image?
What do you think? Do you really care?
