We Were Promised Jetpacks: BeatCrave Fav
By Lindsey Darden
We Were Promised Jetpacks (aka WWPJ) got their start six years ago in Edinburgh, Scotland, in the way that most movies aimed at teens sensationalize high school band competitions – except, well, more realistically. The four-piece indie rock band actually did win a high school competition and understandably found themselves limited to “dry” venues until they became of legal age. After having relocated to Glasgow, they were able to build a rapport within the local scene that has followed them to the present day in their endeavors.
Thanks to word of mouth – or rather, willful association on MySpace – thanks to fellow band Frightened Rabbit, WWPJ’s sound was made available to those doing the discovering. They were soon signed to FatCat Records, and have since released a debut album, entitled These Four Walls. Currently on tour, the highly energetic but appropriately introspective band will continue along stateside then back overseas until at least the end of November.
We are totally feeling the energy, the accents, the youth emulated not only encapsulated in performances but existing regardless. If you feel it as much as we do, be sure check them out in our BeatCrave Fav series below and vote for We Were Promised Jetpacks in Friday’s poll!
