New EELS Album is Coming

The long standing rock band the EELS are prepping for another album to add to their lengthy discography. The group already has 7 records under their belt, and the latest will be of epic proportions. They just released Hobre Lobo back in June, and they already have a follow up disc waiting in the wings.

Hobre Lobo will be followed by their upcoming End Times, which is scheduled for release on January 19th. The new album features 14 tracks largely self-recorded by EELS leader Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, in his Los Angeles basement studio. This will mark the shortest gap in time between EELS albums, in contrast to the longest which was a 4 year span between 2005′s Blinking Lights and Other Revelations and 2009′s Hobre Lobo.

Am I the only one who thought of the Black Eyed Peas when reading the name of their upcoming album? It’s like End Times versus the Peas’ The E.N.D. Everyone seems obsessed with the apocalypse these days. I always get weary about artists releasing albums back to back so quickly. The quality usually suffers, but hopefully that’s not the case here.
