A-ha the Norwegian pop band, who is notoriously known for hits such as “Take On Me” and synth riffs, will be calling it quits after 25 successful years.

However, they’ve just scored a top 10 album in the UK so they’re going to ride the success of that release for just a bit more. The band will not officially call it quits until they have a farewell tour. More details after the jump!

25 years is almost an unimaginable time span for a band to stay successful and the guys of A-ha know it. The band expresses their awareness to BBC News by saying, “We’ve literally lived the ultimate boy’s adventure tale” but now feel that they’re ready to focus on “other meaningful aspects of life, be it humanitarian work, politics, or whatever else” with the split happening.

Members, Harket and Waaktaar-Savoy, have both released solo albums during the band’s breaks. Perhaps they will be able to refresh their solitaire efforts again.

There is a farewell tour happening but the band has only revealed the last date – which is December 4 in Oslo, Norway.

Until we find out more, enjoy their video for “Take On Me” below. Incubus has credited it to be the inspiration for their “Drive” video.

    A little footnote:
Their solo effort had been continued during the a-ha time as well.
There was an alternation between a-ha and solo material.
Which is the reason why the later new a-ha albums took so long in between and why whith each new album it was called a comeback again in the media..
