Madonna Wakes Up The Neighbors

Throughout her long and exciting career, Madonna has been called plenty of things. Let’s add ‘bad neighbor’ to the list.

It seems Madonna has the volume turned up a touch loud for her fellow Central Park West building tenants, specifically Karen George, who lives above Madonna in the chichi building. George filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court on Friday against the co-op board, accusing it of not taking action against Madonna for the noise and disruption.

According to the lawsuit, neighbors have to deal with “blaring music, stomping and shaking walls” from Madonna’s $4-million, seventh-floor apartment for up to three hours a day.

“Madonna and one or more of her invited guests repeatedly dance and train to unreasonably high-decibel, amplified music, causing noise and vibration to pour through the walls, ceilings and radiators,” states the lawsuit.

George also complained that “Madonna and one or more of her invited guests repeatedly dance and train… to unreasonably high-decibel, amplified music, causing noise and vibration to pour through the walls, ceilings and radiators.”

It seems the preparations for Madonna’s Sticky and Sweet tour were held in her apartment (‘apartment’ seems like such an terrible way to describe the palace it really is), rather than say, a sound stage or warehouse or underground bunker. So this is not the first time a complaint has been filed. The Material Girl had already been threatened with eviction if she didn’t turn it down.

But now things just got litigious. Madonna or no Madonna, best not piss off a wealthy neighbor in the greater Central Park West area who clearly has time on her hands during the day. No word yet if George is even a fan of the pop icon. It was probably about the 25th rendition of “Express Yourself” booming through the hallways and rattling the fancy chandeliers that she dialed up her lawyer.

Most people who have ever lived in an apartment complex can sympathize with George; who hasn’t tried to get some sleep, while your neighbor’s love affair with Night Ranger can only be experienced at 10 on the volume dial? That Madonna was apparently rehearsing for a stadium tour in her glitzy penthouse would probably get really old really fast.

Besides, three hours a day of Madonna tunes – at any volume – is enough to make anyone crazy.

No comment yet from Madonna, who probably doesn’t care.

Should Madonna be evicted for annoying everyone in her building?
