The man behind Eels, Oliver Everett, is definitely in a creative groove. Just six months after the release of Hombre Lobo: 12 Songs of Desire, Eels already have a new album ready to drop.

End Times, due January 19th, features 14 tracks, which were mostly recorded in Everett’s Los Angeles basement studio. It’s the eighth studio album for Eels.

The title End Times doesn’t exactly scream ‘party!’

And album tracks like “Paradise Blues” and “I Need a Mother” have a rather depressing ring to them. Hell, even the album cover is kind of… intense and dark with a message way beyond my comprehension.

According to Undercover Music News, Everett calls the next album ‘the divorce album.’

Hombre Lobo came four years after its previous album so E says he does not want to waste any time this time. “I felt guilty about the long gap between the last two albums so I’m making up for lost time,” he says.

In between albums Everett wrote the book ‘Things My Grandchildren Should Know’ and worked on the documentary Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives, which tells the story about the relationship between himself and his physicist father Hugh Everett III.

In the end, this kind of (surprisingly fast) Eels output must be hailed. It seems Everett and team still had more to say/sing following Hombre Lobo: 12 Songs of Desire.

The indie music scene says ‘thank you.’
