Well, that was quick. Just a few weeks after officially declaring that Oasis is over, ex-Oasis singer Liam Gallagher has plans to form a new band.

According to NME, Gallagher, whose brother Noel already bailed from Oasis and has announced his own solo plans, is looking at 2010 to get a new project underway – perhaps as early as January.

“Getting away from the whole Oasis thing is going to be a good thing I suppose,” Liam told The Scotsman. “I don’t want to do anything solo. I want to be in a band. But we can do things a lot differently these days. It’ll definitely be rock ‘n’ roll.”

Gallagher added:

“For now, I’ll be relaxing at home, just getting out of music for a bit and then I’m going to start up something maybe after January, do something different, see where it goes,” he explained. “But I’ll be having a breather from the music for a bit without a doubt.”

It’s only been two months since Oasis went south. Noel quit, but there were rumors the band would go on without Liam’s bro. We’d seen the two have falling outs before, but then they’d work it out and get back to music – until the next blow-up. That was totally part of the band’s charm.

But this time it looks like the band is no more. Unless you think like I do, which is that there will absolutely be an Oasis reunion within the next five years. Hell, could be next year. No way the brothers can stay away for too long. Even if it’s a one-off show at sold-out Wembley Stadium it’s going to happen. Book it.

“I’m always going to miss Oasis. It was my fuckinging thing, you know what I mean? It’s who I am,” he said.

“But it’s only a name. I’m still who I am and I can go and do something else. I’ve got music in me. I’ll never leave it behind but we’ll see where it goes. It might be shit but you don’t know until you try.”

At least he’s honest. His new band/solo effort might suck. Or it might be awesome. It’ll be interesting to hear whether his new, music endeavor will have the Oasis ‘sound,’ or will it be completely different. No doubt there will be questions about whether Liam recruits well-known musicians, or decides to bring on board up-and-coming players. Is it Liam and some back-up guys, or is this Liam as part of a unit – somewhat like Oasis?

Clearly the guy wants to be part of a band dynamic, and it’s safe to assume he’s bummed about Oasis blowing up into pieces (for now). Yes, he can always play music with a new band, but Oasis was/is a big deal, and it must be hard to just down shift from being part of something with worldwide acclaim, to almost starting over. So we shall see.

Your move, Noel.

What do you think about Liam Gallagher playing with a new band?
