Julian Casablancas To Cover SNL Christmas Song
By Seraphina L.
Julian Casablancas seems to be full of little and delightful surprises lately. Although many are still warming up to his latest solo album, Phrazes of the Young, Los Angeles residents still get treats here and there.
For instance, he surprised everyone at Spaceland last night as the special guest during The Happy Hollows‘ first residency night. He’s also got his own residency going on downtown LA at the Downtown Palace Theatre. Now, we hear a random but fun rumor (via P4k) about Casablancas bringing Saturday Night Live‘s popular “Christmas Song” back to life on a 7″.
If you don’t recall SNL’s “Christmas Song” skit, it was simple ditty that featured Horatio Sans, Jimmy Fallon, Tracy Morgan, and Chris Kattan playing (somewhat playing) instruments and repeatedly singing the lyrics “I wish it was Christmas today.” You can watch the video below:
It’s a cheerful holiday song, but we wonder how Casablancas’ rendition will sound. Will he add a little more punk to it? It already has a pretty solid pop chorus with a hilarious riff to boot. How’s the Strokes front man going to make it sound “cool” without reminding us about its conception from a joke?
The 7″ release will be a limited edition and will include a download of his cover of “I Wish It Was Christmas Today.”
What do you think of Julian Casablanca doing SNL’s “Christmas Song?”
