Precious Precious Soundtrack Release Date Announced

Lee Daniel’s Precious hit theaters today in limited-release, and while film critics will have their fair-share of good and bad reviews, we only care about the music. Lionsgate announced today that the Precious soundtrack would be released on November 23rd, along with the online version that’s already been out since November 3rd.

In the past, we’ve mentioned how music and film work together to enhance the overall mood of a certain film and Precious is no different.

Lee Daniels not only helmed  Precious, but he also served as the soundtrack’s producer along with R&B singer Mary J. Blige. The soundtrack also features Queen Latifah, Mahalia Jackson, Grace Hightower and a few others. But of course, the star of the soundtrack is Blige, and her song “I Can See In Color” is a perfect compliment to Precious’ tale of self-discovery.

During an industry conference in Beverly Hills last weekend, Blige said that she wouldn’t put the song on her new album Stronger — which is to be released in December — because “I Can See In Color” was strictly for the film, reports The LA Times. Blige’s song is definitely a tearjerker, but that doesn’t stop it from being an amazing song. I have yet to listen to the entire soundtrack, but Blige’s song definitely sets the right mood for a heartbreaking story.

Daniels mentioned that he chose artists such as Blige, because they resonate Precious’ world and can speak to anyone’s soul. The overall goal of the soundtrack is to add unto the powerful message that the film is trying to send. (Listen to Blige’s “I Can See In Color”)
