Jerry Fuchs Dies After Fall Down Elevator Shaft
Brooklyn drummer, Jerry Fuchs, died early Sunday morning after he fell down an elevator shaft. Fuchs was a drummer for beloved indie bands such as !!!, the Juan MacLean, and Maserati.
Spinner, New York Post, and Gothamist all report that the accident occurred while Fuchs was attending a loft party in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The loft was originally an old factory.
The New York Post reports Fuchs and a friend were in the elevator when it stopped near the fifth floor. After opening the elevator door, the two friends attempted to jump from the elevator and on to the floor. Fuch’s friend made the jump but Fuch did not due to a piece of clothing which got caught, “sending him swinging back into the crevice separating the elevator from the fifth floor.”
Fuchs was taken to Bellevue Hospital and died early Sunday morning.
Gerhardt “Jerry” Fuchs also played drums for bands, Vineland and Turing Machine. !!!’s first drummer, Mikel Gius, also died in an accident when he was hit by a car while riding his bike back in 2005.
Fuchs was 34 and is survived by his parents, a brother, and two sisters. We wish his family and friends well.
The Juan MacLean have shows scheduled into the beginning of January. There has not been any word on cacellations, but we’ll update you as soon as we know more details.

A terrible, unspeakable loss to the community. Jerry was beloved by all who knew him or heard him play. We are in shock. He was so loved and such warm wonderful person. He will be so incredibly missed by all.

Mikel Guis was actually the original drummer for !!!, a band that Jerry was in for a few years also. RIP Jerry you were a great person and will be missed.
