Jay Z Signs Ting Tings To Roc Nation Jay Z Signs Ting Tings To Roc Nation

British pop duo, The Ting Tings, were just on the verge of mainstream stateside for 2008. Ht songs included “That’s Not My Name” and “Shut Up and Let Me Go” which was used in the an iPod commercial. Their debut album, We Started Nothing, was an indie favorite that even landed them spots in SXSW and on late night shows such as Jimmy Kimmel.

Last time we heard anything from Katie White and and Jules de Martino, they warned fans by saying it might take a little longer to write their second album because of their massive tour schedule. Now – finally – we’ve got Ting Tings news but it’s a rather random tidbit: Ting Tings has been signed to Jay-Z‘s record label, Roc Nation.

According to Britain’s Daily Star newspaper (via Breaking News Ireland Online), Jay-Z wants to lend a hand with production. The newspaper states that “The Staccato rhythmic style of The Ting Tings sits well with what he does best, so that was the attraction.” Perhaps he is the inspiration White was speaking of when she spoke to NME.

What’s funny is that they report this as the duo’s big chance to make it big in America by saying things such as “Jay can make them one of the biggest British bands in America.” The next Coldplay? No, thanks.

We’re not too worried about their exponential success. They’ve finished a very long world tour and have seen the States in numerous cities thanks to their popularity. So, they would be probably be fine on their own. However, it’ll be interesting to hear a Roc Nation influenced album.

As for Jay-Z, it looks like he’s still got it even with a few rejections. He’s also signed British pop group, Sugababes (who have changed band members more times than Menudo).

The questions is… with his help, will the Ting Tings still have their signature sound?
