Michael Jackson’s Funeral Reportedly Cost $1 Million
By Kara
Oh, Michael Jackson‘s lavish spending habits somehow managed continue even after his death. It is reported that Jackson’s private funeral, not the fiasco at the Staples Center, cost his estate a cool $1 million dollars, because “It was Michael Jackson. He was bigger than life when he was alive.” Even though the man was in serious debt when he passed away, his estate felt like they needed to spend that much money on his funeral.
Here is the break down of the money spent:
- $590,000 went to his final resting place in Forest Lawn
- $30,000 went to security
- $21,000 was spent at the Italian restaurant the funeral-goers attended after the funeral
- $16,000 went to the florist
At what point does someone go, “You know Joe, I think we are going a little over-board here”? We are in a recession people, and everyone can benefit from cutting back a little bit. That is a lot of money! The florist’s bill alone could have funded a year of my college! This is what’s wrong with society. We idolize celebrities that are willing to spend that much money on a funeral. The final resting place and security fees I could slightly understand, and I can see how a big funeral party could spend that much at a restaurant, but this just seems a little extravagant.
What do you think?

NOBDY HAD A MONEY PROBLEM WITH MJ WHEN HE WAS SINGING AND ENTERTAINING THEM FOR 40 YEARS. AND I WILL BET YOU THAT THE CITY ALSO HAD NO PROBLEM COLLECTING TAXES FROM MJ AND HIS FAMILY. NOBODY HAD A PROBLEM THINKING THAT BURYING ELVIS WITH ALL OF THE FANFARE WAS OVER THE TOP. I THINK MICHAEL JACKSON WITH ALL THAT HE CONTRIBUTED OVER HIS LIFETIME DESERVED THAT LAST HOORAH. JUST I MILLION WELL HE GAVE THAT MUCH TO UNDERPRIVELEGED CHILDREN IN A WEEKEND AND EVEN MORE TO HE FANS. WHERE WERE THE PEOPLE WITH THE PROBLEMS FOR THE 50 YEARS HE WAS ALIVE.
