The Watson Twins have a new album simmering on the burner. Talking to You, Talking to Me, from Vanguard Records, will be released Feb. 9. The sophomore effort is the follow-up to Fire Songs, which debuted in 2008.

The new album from the Twins, Chandra and Leigh Watson, contains 12 songs and features help from members of My Morning Jacket and Everest.

Word is the Louisville natives are shifting their musical focus on Talking to You, Talking to Me to a more folksy-soulful style, reminiscent of old school Carole King, but with a pop foundation. That has the makings of something very special for the songwriting duo, an inspired step forward that builds on the musical foundation of their excellent debut.

Perhaps best known for their collaborative album with Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis, Rabbit Fur Coat, the Watson Twins joined with producers J. Soda and Russell Pollard for the early stages of recording Talking to You, Talking to Me in a remote cabin in the High Sierras near Yosemite to demo songs for the new album.

The songs were brought back to Los Angeles where a band of friends came together to help record the album, which just might launch the identical twins to even greater heights.

No track list yet for the new album, but a song called “U N Me” can be heard here.

The Watson Twins are currently on tour with Joshua Radin.
