King Khan & BBQ Show Possibly In Jail?
By Seraphina L.
UPDATE: See end of story.
Montreal, Canada-based band The King Khan & BBQ Show, known to fuse doo-wop and punk together and put on some of the craziest rock shows out there with their eccentric vibes are some what a mystery to us in terms of location right now.
They are currently on tour with punk-country group, Those Darlins, but they seemed to be a no-show for their set at Off Broadway in St. Louis Thursday night. Foreshadowing factors (or lack thereof) included not making soundcheck and lack of communication beforehand.
The St. Louis Riverfront Times (via Brooklyn Vegan) has reported that they may have missed the show because members, Arish “King” Khan and Mark Sultan, were arrested somewhere between Nashville and St. Louis. There are rumors that the arrest was for drug possession but no reps have been able to say anything to the public yet.
When King Khan & BBQ Show weren’t avaible to play, guess who did an impromptu set of classic rock and roll covers? It was Deer Tick‘s John McCauley who came to the rescue, but it do much to cover up the fact that there was a gaping hole in last night’s lineup. McCauley was only there because his fiance is Nikki Darlin of Those Darlins.
Off Broadway and concert promoters are offering refunds to those who attended.
Those Darlins and The King Khan & BBQ Show still have shows scheduled into the beginning of December. Perhaps the duo isn’t really in jail but if they are – hopefully, they’re not there for long.

UPDATE:
So it turns out neither band member were ever arrested or in jail; their manger Kristin Klein was instead. According to Brooklyn Vegan, the duo and Klein were stopped near the border of Tennessee. Klein was charged for driving with a suspended license and possession of a “controlled substance.” She was held at Christian County Kentucky Jail, and her bond is $3,000.
What “controlled substance?” Brooklyn Vegan assumes it was mushrooms based on this entry on Klein’s flickr.
If you’re going to their Kansas show tonight, King Khan & BBQ Show will not be peforming. However, Those Darlins is still slated to take the stage.
Mangers can have fun too, but maybe there’s a certain line they shouldn’t be crossing. What do you think?
