The Who’s Performing At The Superbowl?
By Laura AguirreThe Who is the latest classic rock band to be play at the Superbowl halftime show, or so they say. According to Sports Illustrated, sources are saying that the legendary group will perform at Superbowl XLIV in Miami on February 7, 2010. Whether this rumor is true or not is up for debate, but if it is this would mark the North American return of The Who after a two year absence.
Could it be true? Will The Who join Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen in being yet another classic rock act to perform at the historical halftime show?
Here’s what the head honchos over at the NFL had to say about the rumor,
“When we have something to announce, we’ll announce it.”
The Who’s official website has also posted a response which states,
“Rumors circulating that The Who are going to play at the Superbowl in Miami in February are pure speculation.”
The Superbowl halftime show is a highly coveted gig. In the past, A-list entertainers and musicians such as U2, Aerosmith, Britney Spears and most recently, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, have graced stages all over America. The Who seems like a perfect follow up to last season’s halftime performers, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
Recently, during Roger Daltrey’s “Use It or Lose It” tour, the Who’s frontman told Billboard that he and Pete Townshend were working on some new material.
“Hopefully if this tour has done it’s job, I’ll be in really good form as a vocalist. And who knows, we might make our best work.”
However, Daltrey isn’t the only one with a full plate, Townshend has also recently confirmed that he will be working on another musical entitled, Floss (his third). With both Daltrey and Townsend busy on separate and joint projects, it might put a damper on those Superbowl dreams.
