Rainbow Arabia: BeatCrave Fav
By Lindsey Darden
It is often said that music transports the listener. Rainbow Arabia, falling under the category of world music, takes us away from the humdrum of day-to-day life without letting us forget how – as with the case with music- we are all inter-related. Song titles such as “Holiday in Congo”, “Harlem Sunrise” and “The Basta” (including album titles) serve as a reminder of life outside of the bubble, all the while inspiring a rhythmic shaking of the hips.
With lyrics sung within an impressive range and the utilization of instuments varying from standard guitar to kettledrum, the Los Angeles-based husband-wife duo sets a good tone for mood music albeit with an electro-rock/punk feel. This makes for a branch of music that can involve anyone listening, in the thought that music is about as universal a language as you can get. Being universally-reaching isn’t an easy task, but Rainbow Arabia seems to have beaten the challenge and perfected their art, whether in the studio (their latest album Kabukimono having caught a fair share of attention) or via a live persona.
